English: Lima’s Historic Center, the heart of Peru’s capital, is a UNESCO World Heritage site founded in 1535 by Francisco Pizarro as the "City of Kings." Spanning the area around the Plaza Mayor, it features colonial architecture, including the Government Palace, the Cathedral of Lima, and the Monastery of San Francisco with its catacombs. Rich in history, it showcases a blend of Spanish and indigenous influences through its balconied buildings, churches, and plazas like Plaza San Martín. Despite challenges from earthquakes and urban growth, this vibrant district remains a cultural hub, freely accessible to visitors exploring Peru’s past.
